Various Gyn procedures that can be carried out in Sushrut Hospital are

Hysteroscopy
In this procedure an Endoscope is inserted into the uterus through the Cervix(mouth of the uterus) under Anesthesia, thereby enabling the visualisation of the interior of the uterus.
Various indications for Hysteroscopy are
Endometrial cancers, endometrial polyps, uterine abnormalities, blocked fallopian tubes, infections.
Operative indications for Hysteroscopy are
Removal of polyps, foreign bodies, resection of septum, endometrial ablation

Laproscopy
This is also known as keyhole or minimally invasive surgery. Laproscopy can be both diagnostic and operative.
Various indications are
Diagnosis of endometriosis, pelvic infections, blocked fallopian tubes ovarian cysts fibroids in the uterus.
Operative Laproscopy is usually done in
Removal of fiboroids, ovarian cysts, ectopic pregnancies, tubal ligations for family planning, removal of infected tubes and ovaries, ovarian drilling in PCOD.

General Gynecological Procedures
Vaginal repairs of lax vaginal walls, hystrectomy for prolapse of uterus, DNC in infertility treatments etc.
Cancer Surgery
Related to cancers of the uterus, cervix, ovary and fallopian tubes.

Gynaecological Cancers :

Gynaecological cancers are cancers of the female reproductive system and are common. These include cervical cancer(cancer of lower part of uterus), endometrial cancer (cancer of the uterus), ovarian and fallopian tube cancers, breast cancer and cancer of the vulva and vagina.

In India, cervical cancer is the most common women-related cancer, followed by breast cancer, uterine, ovarian, vulval and vaginal cancers.

Symptoms of gynaecological cancers include:
abnormal / persistent vaginal discharge or bleeding
distension/discomfort of abdomen
change in bowel or bladder habits
pain and or bleeding during intercourse
vaginal itching, burning or soreness
lumpsor wart-like growths

The symptoms depend on size, site and growth of tumour.
Screening Test : It is when a test is used to look for a disease before there are any symptoms.

Pap test : for cervical cancer early detection when treatment works best

HPV test looks for HPV infection. It can be used along with the Pap test for screening women aged 30 years and older and to provide more information when Pap test results are unclear.

Diagnostic tests are used when a person has symptoms andalso to check high risk individuals.

For other gynaecological cancers it is important to recognise warning signs as there are no reliable screening tests available.Contact your doctor if you believe that you are at increased risk for gynecologic cancer.

Vaccine - Some gynecologic cancers are caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV), a very common sexually transmitted infection. Vaccinesprotect against the HPV types that most often cause cervical, vaginal, and vulvar cancer.
